Environmentally Friendly Kitchen Utensils
By Pamela99
Bamboo in the Kitchen
Friendly kitchen plans are using more bamboo called End-grain Bamboo for kitchen counters, the flooring may be cork or Marmoleum, which is linoleum that is made out of earth friendly materials. Quarried stone slabs are made of fly ash, post industrial crushed glass and low-carbon cement are used for counters. Appliances are energy efficient and will keep your electricity bill lower.
Earth Friendly
Recyle Your Trash
Beyond all the major items in the kitchen it is also possible to have Eco-friendly efficient utensils. First, I think most of us know the importance of recycling. There are approximately 8,550 curbside recycling programs in the United States according to the United States Recycling Statistics. Recycling is not just news papers and aluminum cans. If you don’t have curb side recycling, you can get rid of food, leaves from your yard and have a great start on a compost pile. You can also use your own cloth shopping bags. If a bin is not furnished to you Rubbermaid makes them in several sizes. You can also purchase a can crusher so more fits into your bin.
Stainless utensils and utensils made out of bamboo seem to dominate the environmentally friendly cooking supplies. There is a huge selection on the internet at various sites that will probably meet any of your needs for gadgets utensils.

Stainless Steel Utensils
Stainless steel utensils are very popular with good reason. They last a long time which makes them a good investment. Pictured below are just a couple of items, but you can purchase silverware, a garlic press, tongs, hand cheese grater and the list goes on to fulfill all your needs.

Eco-Friendly Products
Recycled Paper Products for Kitchen
Recycled paper products can supply your napkins and other paper products, such as napkins and paper towels. If you read the labels when shopping you will find that many items are now made from re-cycled materials. This is very good for the environment, as the dumps across the country are filling up unnecessarily.

Veneerware Products - Party Time
Having a party or a big crowd at your house? Veneerware is the perfect solution. It is sturdy and has a natural appearance. It will look nice at your event, and they have a minimal impact on our planet. When your party is over you just toss the Veneerware into your compost pile. No fuss, no mess.

Kitchen Cleaning
Another thing to consider is Eco-friendly homemade cleaning products as so many products off the store shelves have some ingredients that are toxic. The main cleaning products to use are; vinegar, soap, baking soda lemon juice and water. Of course, you will need elbow grease!
Here are a few
ideas: use ¾ cup of distilled white vinegar, 1 cup of water, 1 tbsp. lemon
juice and ½ tsp. baking soda. Put the
mixture in a spray bottle and it is great for cleaning off counters and
sinks. Using plain water with a black
and white printed newspaper will clean those kitchen windows beautifully. There are special green cleaning products you can purchase also. Be sure to look for the green label.
Sum it All Up
When you purchase environmentally friendly utensils they are sometimes more expensive, but you are doing something important to save the environment. There are dozens of utensils that could have been discussed, but the hub would have been way too long.
The Veneerware is particularly unique for a family get together or party as you can compost the dirty plates and glasses, which means no cleanup. To me that is a great perk! Stainless steel utensils (many now have bamboo handles) are very good for many reasons as they last a long time, look attractive and are easy to clean. It will take a little effort to change your kitchen into a more planet friendly place, but the effort is worthwhile. Plus if each of us does just some of these things we can make a huge impact on cleaning up our environment.

First, I apologize for my lack of comments lately; I’m vacationing on the east coast. There’s a part of me that is an advocate of recycling and a part of me that resist it because of that Boob of all Boobs Al Gore. In a way we recycled vice presidents. Clinton had Goofy Gore as his VP and Obama has Babbles Biden as his. So if you look at it that way they are doing their part to protect the environment; they’re destroying the country but three cheers for the environment!
Patriot, I hear what you are saying as the country is in such trouble. Thank you for your comments.
I say we all need to do what we can to help the environment and not depend on someone else to pass a law making it manditory.
We have to recycle in my town. It is actually mandated. Which I am all for. The area is clean and bright and wonderful to reside within. The equipment you show within your hub is great stuff! I appreciate your hub and am voting it up!
Hanna, I agree with your sentiments. Thank you for your comments.
K9keystrokes, I believe in recycling but it is a chose where we live. Thank you for your comment.
Great way to cook and think about the environment at the same time.
Sandy, Thank your so much for your comments.
What a great idea for a hub! We need more of this in our lives - environmentally friendly before we kill where we live. Super idea and voted it up!
