Physical Differences Between Men & Women
What do woman in a gym notice when men exercise? Rippling muscles? A broad chest? A little hair on the chest? Muscle bound arms? Tight little butts? Maybe, that little smile that comes your way? Most woman aren't looking for those super muscle builder models, just a man that is physically fit with a nice smile. What we might notice but don't like is a man talking to us while staring at our chest. I mean the eyes are above the throat please. Or, a man intently watching you exercise if you are a little self conscious about how you fill out those exercise tights. Men, be smart and peek on the sly.
There are some differences between men and women which affects their ability to do some exercises. First men are about 10-15% bigger than women and 30% stronger, especially in the upper body. I imagine that's why a mans muscular arms feel so good to the touch! Women have fewer slow twitch muscle fibers which are the ones that work best for endurance activities, so men have that advantage as well. Women do have a higher percentage of body fat and Northwestern University indicates in one of their studies woman can supply fuel to their muscles for longer duration, so they are able to break some world time record times.
But, back to the men. Men tend to approach a broad subject area by focusing on an one area at a time while women tend to multitask. This might give men the edge when exercising also. Then, when I think of suddenly being put in a dangerous situation and need police help, I'm sorry but give me a big bruiser over a 95 pound woman every time. I know that's a double standard but survival is a strong instinct.

Use Exercise Time Wisely
Most woman would be impressed by a man that is doing the high-intensity interval exercise as their cardiovascular training. That means they would be alternating between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of less-intensive activity or even rest periods. You can achieve more progress in 15 minutes of intense exercise done 3 times weekly. Most intelligent men want to use their time effectively. Ultimately they'll live longer, too, because intervals elevate the good cholesterol and lower the bad which will keep the blood in those arteries flowing.
This activity is much more impressive than the young man exercising who jumps up and does a chest bump with his best buddy.

More Than Interval Training
When doing interval training you can quickly use up your body fuel which is fat, then as the body searches for more fuel you lose the ability to flush metabolic by-products from the muscles and that is when you will feel the sore muscle pain from lactic acid build-up, sometimes called the "burn". If you are still exercising at this point it is a good time to stop as your muscles can't contract forcefully and your body needs rest.
That is why the interval exercise is designed to have periods of rest or exercise that is very slowed down in between the intervals. The body will use oxygen more efficiently and blood supply to the muscles will increase. The good news is this will lead to the post cardiac workout calorie burning that we all want.

Other Ways to Get a Cardio Workout
A vigorous game of tennis or hand ball can give you a good cardio aerobic workout. Of course, there are numerous types of aerobic equipment available, such as treadmills, bikes, elliptical trainers, Stairmasters, and so on. They all work if you commit the time consistently. Team sports always involve a degree of standing around so you don't typically get that consistent heart rate up for the required amount of time.
Many men like to do weight lifting which is important to increase strength and build muscles. Again, there are machines designed for specific muscles and free weights. If you follow safe practices, progress at a steady rate than you should be able to achieve your goals.
To conclude, all exercise must begin with that thought in your brain aware that, I have a goal and I am willing to do what it takes to achieve that goal. If you are not exercising now, no matter what age you are, decide what type of exercise would suit you and get started. Don't worry about what the woman think, they're going to check you out sometime no matter what age you are! Have fun!

Nice hub. Although I am a man, I tend to be more like women in multitasking as opposed to focusing on a single area of my body that I want to build up. I look for efficiency and generality instead of particularity and mult-exercises. It saves me time and it kills two birds at one time. Again, nice hub.

Another good hub on fitness. Since I retired March 1, 2007 I have approached my workout as my new job. It is the one structured activity in my life and if I miss it I feel guilty as hell!

As a young guy, I was perfectly fit. my sports were karate, tennis, racketball, and car racing. I was skinny, but muscular. At that time, when I looked at a girl, she either smiled back, or looked down shyly. I never expected any girl not to like my body. My main complaint about girls was that rather than talking, they would stare at me with languid eyes.
Of course, we not only grow up, but get out of shape and loose our youthful beauty. In fact, the better looking we are, the more to loose we have in the looks department. So, as I struggled in life, I stopped exercising and got fat. Well, I don't look well fat at all, but for years, my looks were not important any more. My responsibilities took over, above every thing else. Eventually, at 49, the doctor told me that if I didn't loose weight, I could drop dead while walking. My health had deteriorated to a very sorry state.
I dieted and exercised. In 6 months, I was thin. In a couple of years, I looked at least 10 years younger.
As you said, women check out men. Of course, men check out women. Checking women out, we do get caught once in a while. The response when I was fat was unanimous. If a woman, beautiful or not, young or old cought me looking at her, she would give me a disgusting face and turn her head to the side. If I put my arm on a woman's shoulder, she would discretely move a liitle farther. Now, when I get caught looking at a woman, young, old, beautiful, or ugly, they smile, look down shily, and many times start flirting. Often, they rub my arm and shoulder as they talk with me. I don't have body builder's arms, but they are very firm from my karate excersizes. But their response is so different from when I was fat.
My friend is a tall black body builder. Women women always rub his arms as they talk to him. If he just glances at them, they start flirting right away.
In conclusion, women don't even like to be looked at by middle aged fat men, they love well treammed guys, even if the guys are middle aged men, but they really go gaga over toll body builders!
Well, at least, this is how things are here in Miami.

Actually, Pamela, I am hapily married. But I do enjoy the attention I get from women, whenever I get it. I am talking attention only, not any further.
I did get the humor, and enjoyed the hub. Some times, I do come accross as very serious. You are right about a girl that just looks at people by the looks as superficial. But the same can be said about a guy. I met my wife in a party. There were quite a few beautiful girls. But my wife had the most interesting conversation and debated me in politics to exhaustion. That was what made me think she was the perfect woman for me. 23 years later, I continue thinking the same.
All of us, male or female need to look at ourselves and question are we appealing to ourselves. Great hub and one which I love the humour in...smiles.
Keeping fit is important to good health and that is the benefit I seek is good health.

Also, in return I would like to share what may be a rare circumstance. But shows that it is best to not assume anything, nor always necessary to worry about it -in every case.
Esp. with looking. Your spot on. I have an annoying, sometimes unconscious compulsion to look where I shouldn't. (Very distracting from the workout I'm supposed to be doing) I seem to think I'm still watching TV or something and the other person won't mind as they won't know. But of course they invariably do. Oddly though, it doesn't somehow seem to be the pursuit of more -though I don't think this would be refused were things possible- the thing is due to illness, I know it's not. So the gorping -though trying not to- seems to be a replacement rather than an advance, or offer of more etc. In fact it seems more likely to happen with women that would be a bad match for me. (another sub-conscious: Safety mechanism)
Finally, though please don't take as a dig. Women's constant urge/desire to be seen as beautiful, and the work many put into it does not help this man's urge to look. For example, cosmetics such as hair dye etc. confuses a person as to a gage of their age. I won't go on here, but it may be worth turning up in rags without make-up for those who don't like to be stared at. Besides anything else is like a facard anyway, and how can she tell he likes the real her?
