Parade of Classic Old Cars

Allure of the Automobile Show
I was in Atlanta last weekend visiting with my son and daughter-in-law. On Saturday morning there was a parade of gorgeous classic, collector cars driving slowly down Peachtree Road, ending up at the High Museum of Art. You could look more closely at the antique cars and talk to some of the owners. We stood on Peachtree Road watching these classic used cars which looked in new condition although you know many went through restoration. We took a lot of pictures. I wanted to put many of them in this hub as each antique car was really beautiful. I am not quite sure if I got all the names or all the cars right and some I didn’t know at all. There was no program to follow but I did my best. I am sure there are those that know cars very well who will be delighted to help me out.

Brief Car Manufacturing History
For a brief history of automobiles, the classic car era began with the Great Depression in 1930, and ended with World War II about 1948. It was during this time auto manufacturers began to build closed body cars with fenders, which started to dominate sales rather quickly. The cars had a new sedan body design, incorporating a boot or trunk, as well, for rear storage. Running boards and headlights were added about this time also. By 1930, most of the technology used in today’s automobile had been invented, although there were improvements made continually.
American luxury cars from the 1930’s onward were built to travel on smooth roads and to impress the country club crowd. In Europe, the automakers were building cars designed for performance. After World War II the industry shifted away from the opulence of the pre-war period toward smaller, more practical models.
By the 1950’s the desire for fast, luxurious sports cars prompted automakers on both sides of the Atlantic to design the high-end performance cars for the track and the road. Fuel was cheap, and everyone loved the faster, luxurious cars.

Summary
I hope the array of cars brought back some old memories for everyone. I didn't know the names of many of of the antique cars, but I remember them from my younger years. Watching the parade was such a festive occasion as people were laughing and answering questions when asked. We got an invite to travel to Las Vegas in one of those gorgeous convertibles, but they didn't come back for us! Before the race started it looked strange to see the empty street. It was a beautiful day, and if you have ever been to Atlanta, you just don't get to see Peachtree Road completely empty of traffic, ever!

Soem of the 50s US cars must be among the ugliest ever built - I mean the Caddy is just awful, as is the very first one! But the others here are gorgeous. The last one, the green one, I would say is a Porsche.
Thanks for sharing.
Love and peace
Tony
I love these cars. We have a lot of classic car enthusiasts in my area and there is always a show to go to. Great hub and photos.
The Hudson looked familiar from my childhood. Looking at the older Fords, I remembered a neighbor who had an old one with a rumble seat, and taking us kids for a ride in that seat. Tony probably has the green one right, but it reminded me of a Studebaker-something a kid in high school had.
Pamela, What fun and great photography of the parade of classic used cars, I liked the 1939 Jacquar SS best, what a fab car. Thanks and Peace :)
Some of the old cars may not have looked like much but one thing they all had in common - personality!
Beautiful cars, beautiful photos. Thanks, Pamela.
What a breath of fresh air in a world of pessimism. Thanks. I love old cars!
Hi Pam
My OH says the green car is a Porsche 911 probably from the late 60s or very early 70s but he can't help with the other unknown car. I love old cars - they bring back memories of so many different things such as movies or songs. Rated up!
Amber:)
What fun! I watched a car auction on cable with my son and they had many many of these beauties. I would love one just to park in the garage and then I can have a date in the garage. You need a really classic car to have a good date.
Loved that timeless Rolls.
Thanks for a fun hub!
What a fun hub, and I love all your pictures, great day outside and a visit with the family rolled all into one great trip. Thanks for sharing this outstanding hub with us. I big thumbs up ...
I get a 56 T Bird "Red" when I get up there...will buzz you all...
Blessings...awesome pictures.
You got some gems here, Pam.
Keep on hubbing!
This is a great gallery of gorgeous cars. Thank you for this pleasure. I enjoyed it thoroughly. :-)
What a neat little hub! I actually shared this with my husband and he loved it too! You rarely see these cars anymore, except as little 'dinky' cars models that I adore...(once my son grows older, I'm going to buy him some.) Refreshing read... thank you!
WOW. Great Hub & great pictures. Those cars all had character & were each unique. Love that Ford Willys Woody.
Thank ou for this wonderful experience of seeing all these old timer.
Hi Pamela,
This hub presents an array of cool classic cars. My favorites are the Jag SS, the lil' red vette w/white walls, and the red convertible Benz at the end. Glad you were there so you could share with us!
Love these old cars, they have such beautiful lines and the workmanship is of high standards. Your photographs are beautiful, well done
Pamela, this was wonderful. I have lived in Atlanta also and been to Peachtree Street. The cars are fantastic. Thank you for sharing with us...back home!!! HA!
Pamela, this is a totally awesome collection of vintage car images! Loved your writing. I lived in Atlanta in 1989 and have been to Peachtree Street, too!
wonderful hub for fantastic car. It brings back many memories. This was totally amazing. I wish I have one of them. But I heard from my local newspaper, about the classic car which sold in auction worth hundred thousands dollar. I think it could be good investment in the future.
So, to all my friends who have classic car. Keep your car well. Thank you very much. Good work and I rate this one.

Yo Pamela99,
I was born in 1931 and knew each and every car in your Hub. Gee! thanks for the memory.
Great collection of pictures of antique cars. My husband loves antique cars too and he actually has a 1950's Rolls Royce, quite like the one in the picture. Cool hub.
My husband will LOVE this hub!
They used to have a parade like that in Gulfport, MS before Katrina.
This was a really great hub. I love the classic cars. My husband and I usually go see a classic car show once a year. His favorite is the 1957 Chevy. I like the Camaros from the later 60's. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Oh man, I want that Woody!!!!
good hubs
Nice selection of cars. I love the Stingray and the Hudson. I enjoyed your selection of pictures.
my grandpaw had a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR W 196-S.He had it for a long time and it was a great car with plenty of room in it.I loved that car.The closses thing I found that was close to it was a 1984 charakee wood grand.I really miss that car.

Pamela99: Seems like your photography skills are at expert level. I love classic cars. Can't really help with the names, just like looking at them!
wow, great photos. i love car shows - any kind. i even like watching them on tv... there's one i just started watching from Indiana that autions off muscle cars...omg so many of those cars are incredible.
very nice hub Pamela!
Pam, still catching up, great hub on cars that are fun to see. The black car with the white sidewalls looks to have a winged wheel radiator cap, that would be a Studebaker from the early to mid 1930's. The Ford and Studebaker's from that era were much alike and little things seem to boost them to identification. Thanks for the memories of cars that had I known they would sell for 30k now, I might not have tore them up then, spilling my beer LOL, 50
Great hub I love the old cars, you cannot beat them they were so much safer than those built today as well. I hope you dont mind but I would like to link your hub to one I did ages ago. cheers.
I love old cars! My father use to love them too, brought back great memories. thank you and loved this hub!
Pam, Great Hub and Pictures! I liked the picture of the Hudson. In the early days of NASCAR the Hudson Hornet would terrorize the tracks and blow all the other cars off into the weeds. Great Pictures. The green car at the end is a Porsche. Unknown about the year and model. By the way, did your son sell his house yet?
Classic Cars are very much require be come up in this best era of the car industries. Most of the the Company like, For, WV, & Honda Has Started to given same looks as old Classic Cars to their newly upcoming models. this means this cars never be die, i like this kinds of car & also love to watch the really of this cars which last i seen in canada.
Great Hub, I just love the old cars, brings back memories of some of the ones i used to own. Enjoyed it very much thanks for sharing.
Hi Pamela - what a great Hub! It was hard to pick a favorite, but I gotta go with the 1935 Duesenberg JN Roadster. I have a similar collection that I first posted here and got not PV's. I moved the slide show to AC (now YCN) but still no interest. I'm trying a different route and I think I'll link to your wonderful hub. I'll come back and drop you the address of the "mention". THANKS

Pamela,
The old cars are like my music a sort of time machine. I loved the Woody as it reminds me of The Beach Boys songs!!!!!!!!!!
