Loungewear - A Whole New Trend

By

New Trend for At Home Clothing

The new trend in clothing, especially for the working women is in comfortable, casual lounge ware. Manufacturers are reporting that sales for pajamas have increased over the last year with new styles and fabrics, such as bamboo. However, 100% cotton is still very popular.

The reason for the change could be the economy is tight and we are spending more time nesting at home, thus upgrading from sweats to something a little more attractive or maybe when mom comes home from work she needs a break. She doesn’t want to change clothes 2 more times before bed. She has children to care for, a meal to and quite often general household choirs. So, now we see active wear as not just running short, tights, capresi or sweats but a whole new choice of clothing.

What is loungewear?

Loungewear is considered to be pajamas and yoga pants, hoodies and tanks with consumers looking for that panache they aim for at work, but they want the kind of outfits you can snuggle down on the couch for evening relaxation.  Softer fabrics with bolder colors are everywhere, with fits that flatter without revealing too much.  We see new innovations, such as shelf bras being put in pajamas.  Yoga pants are hot right now as they aren’t so clingy but attractive to wear.  Some people still like the velour sweat suits because they are warm.

A few Do Not try!

There are some loungewear please don’ts! I saw a girl at the grocery store a few days ago with pajamas on, nothing special, just regular pajamas and it didn’t look good.

  • PJ’s outside: Its okay to wear them to the curb to get the paper or mail, but not to the grocery store or mall. And, slippers would make a bad situation worse. Wear shoes!
  • An inappropriate logo placement: If you’re over 25, no logos, no exceptions.
  • Tight is not all right: If the shapes and indentations of an individual’s body parts can be readily identified, then you need to buy a bigger size. That really isn’t very comfortable anyway and certainly not pleasing to the eyes of other people.

Enjoy the new comfort and freedom with these new styles!

Summary

As you can see there are some very comfortable lounge wear items available in soft fabrics.  Everyone wants to be comfortable around their home and this new lounge wear trend makes it happen.

Pamela,

I don't know if this is a trend with men, but around the house I constantly wear my Haines PJ bottoms. I have many and veried colored T-shirts and I can mix and match. It is a very comfy combo.

Great hub Pamela and I'm like Tom believing this is just a ladies thing. for me its blue jeans and I also have many colored tee shirts and baseball caps (too many). I say wear whatever is comfortable and suits one's taste.

Tom and Robert, Thanks for your input. I also want to be relaxed especially at home. I did include a few mens products so you guys wouldn't feel left out.

Great idea; all the pictures you see of China show the population running around in what appears to be their PAJAMAS; might as well get the American population used to their dress code before they impose it on us!

Patriot, You might have a good point there since we owe them more money than we'll ever be able to pay back. Thanks for your comment.

Gosh, I wish I could direct the attention of those who do wear such attire to the mall and grocery store over here to read this hub! I often see divorcees wearing these in groceries stores all the time and sadly they sometimes get hit on (you gotta watch out for cougars :) Great hub, Pamela!

My kids have been wearing lounge pants around at home. I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoy them. When I get home from work, and can relax, it is nice to take off the blue jeans and the restricting belt, and put on a nice loose comfortable pair of lounge pants.

Keep on hubbing!

Dohn, I have a feeling a lot of women like to hit on you. Thank you for your comment.

Eovery, It is nice to have lounge around pants and I can see why the fad is growing. Thanks for your comment.

Hello, hello, 2 years ago

I saw an article in the paper about women going shopping in pyjamas and/or dressinggown. It is unbelievable. Are we sinking any deeper?

Great hub Pamela. I can't believe people actually wear their PJ's to town. I live in a small town so if I was to do something like that everybody would probably think I was crazy. But I do love to wear them around the house.

Pamela99 2 years ago

Hello, and Nancy, Thank you for your comments. I have seen usually younger women in PJ's out and it is always a bit shocking. I lived in a small town before, and no that would never do as everyone knows your business and they talk. I'm so glad you both dropped by.

I love the bamboo fabric. It is a great natural anti-bacterial, so it helps with body oder :)

Pamela99 2 years ago

Hanna, I've heard that the bamboo sheets are great also. Thanks for your comment.

It's funny you mention people wearing pajamas out in public. I see so many people doing this I often wonder what in the world they are thinking? Though, it's not unlike people back in the day walking around with rollers in their hair. :)

Pamela99 2 years ago

Springboard, I hadn't thought about those rollers in the hair for a long time. Thanks for your comment.

Pamela - there is no reason to look crappy when you want to feel comfortable around the house. Horay for lounge wear and ixnay on sweat suits and sloppy looking clothes at home!

Delores, I totally agree. Thank you for your comment.

So glad you brought out the array of comfortable clothing available. I have fibromyalgia and sometimes I can hardly stand to wear 'normal' clothes. Since I have a home-based business, these alternatives would work well for me most of the time and I could still look okay for a trip to the post office or a drive through at the bank!

Pamela99 2 years ago

U Neek, I'm glad you found some help in this hub. Fibromyalgia is a tough disease and its nice you have a home based business. Thanks for your comment.
