How I Get Traffic to my Website
73Get Traffic
I have been writing on Hubpages for 13 months and when I started I was a total novice. I didn't have a clue how to get people to come to my website. I didn't even realize there was so much help on the forums. I just tried to read people's Hubs, such as Rebecca's, and others that seemed to give me the information I was lacking.
The only thing I really worked hard on was the quality of my hub. I am a bit of a perfectionist. I did the research and wrote a lot about medical problems, since I have many years of nursing experience and management education. I also wrote about topics I was interested in such as social issues, stained glass and genealogy. The only problem I didn't have is thinking of something to write about.
I read many other peoples hubs as well, since I could certainly see there are many people who write quality material. I quickly started included videos, pictures and Amazon items, and now receive some income from Amazon. I also signed up for Google Adsense and watched the pennies accrue. I tried Google Analytics and that didn't work out very well, as I was paying them for me to write. That was definitely not the goal.
Money
Posting my Hublinks
After some months, I started posting my articles on various sites around the internet based on what other people discussed and of course, Twitter and Facebook are easily used when you first publish.
- I found Facebook always gave me a couple of visitors, probably because some are relatives.
- Twitter didn't seem to help.
- I also started using DIGG and I did find that I occasionally got some traffic from them.
- One I have found most helpful is Stumble Upon and anything I have posted there has at least given me a couple of visitors.
- Then I tried She Told Me has been helpful as well with new visitors to my hubs.
- The next helpful site I found was Reddit.com. I sometimes get numerous people from this site and sometimes none. This site like the last two are very quick to type in your link and I have a method for doing that which has simplified the process, but first I will tell you about two more sites.
- I have written about my hubs on blogger but that hasn't worked really well for me, probably because I am have not worked to set up a support group on that site..
- Xomba is another site that can be useful, which I've recently started using. You must write a 150 minimum summary to get your article posted, but you post your link and a picture so it seems a good site.
- I have just started promoting my hubs on Snipsy.com as well. They prefer short articles and particular topics but pay 80% adsense. I haven't been there long enough to tell you anymore information.
- I have read that RedGage is good also, so I've signed up with them.
- There are many other sources available to get traffic to your website and I haven't tried all of them.
Hard at Work
How I Utilize my Time Effectively
I write all my hub in Word. I don't want to start writing in Hubpages, as I seem to be able to spot errors in Word more easily and see the big picture. After I have acquired my key words, decided how I want to write the topic, sometimes I make an outline, then I get to work. When I find my videos and pictures and have everything I might need, I copy and paste on Hubpages from my Word document.
At the end of my Word document I write a summary, usually a shorter one as some sites want very few words and a longer one if I'm going to use Xomba. I also write my tags words after I check them on Google ad words to find the best ones to bring traffic to my hub. Xomba will only allow 5 but most of the other sites allow more.
So, as soon as I publish my hub, I immediately put it on Twitter and Facebook. After that I will choose where I want to post my link descriptions, and I am ready to go since they are already written, This may seem like a long process to some, but I found it a lot faster than going to each site and figuring out what they require and then writing the descriptions.
This has increased my traffic quite a bit, although not where I want it to be yet. I think writing hubs of good quality is the most important component in keeping your hub score up and in attracting traffic. I strive to do this. If people know you write good hubs, with articulate information, they are more likely to return to your hubs. I wish I understood back links better and some other things as well, but that is the main reason I am working hard in the 60 day challenge. The bottom line is that my traffic is improving.

Oh.. very useful. Thank you Pamela!!
Excellent hub. Great overview for newbies.
Good Hub Pamela.
Very good infomation for those want to increase their hub traffic.
Good job Pamela - written from your heart, and shared well.
Good job.
John
Thank you for sharing the process. I have done most and settled upon Twitter, Facebook and Stumble Upon. I have found also that many hubbers refer their friends and family members to our hubs and some, like myself have added hubbers widgets to our personal website and blogs.
Because of yahoo and gmail interaction with twitter and facebook, it is usually shown there as well.
Great Hub Pam and thank you.
Love and hugs,
Forever His,
Thanks Pamela for this useful hub. I'm a newbie hubber and I'm just starting to think about how to develop my hubs as well as writing quality material. Cheers for sharing your hubbing experiences.
Pamela
I've been writing on this site for over a year and (not a dime) the traffic seems to be ok with 50 plus fans but nothing in the way of monetary rewards. If I didn't enjoy bashing this Regime so much I wiould have quit a long time ago!
I love reading how other hubbers are achieving their goals. You have given some great tips here! Thanks!
A very good morning Pamela, I must read this Hub again later today because it is packed with awesome information. Pamela, I like you (no make that very much less than a novice) entered HubPages as a complete dummy. I am still lost but the help that my fellow Hubbers give me lends hope that someday I just might get to learn the system of getting traffic. As of now traffic seems to be at a standstill.
Pamela I do hope you got rid of those carpender pests and your plumbing problem is fixed. God Bless!
Very nice hub Pamela99, this a great explanation that can be helpful to others wanting more visitors. A Helpful list and your experience with them will definitely bring attention to all your hubs. Your a good writer by the way, I found it extremely easy to read and follow the information. I like your style!!
Thank you, Pamela, for sharing your first-hand experience and disclosing what works well for you as well as what does not. It's helpful for everyone, newbie and veteran alike. You are not only intelligent and clever, but a nice person, too. But you already know that.
Very well done Pamela.
It seems that making hubs universal is important...which is an art unto itself,we're on the same page as for posting links on other sites Pamela;)
Hi Pamela, I really enjoyed this hub explaining your methodology. When I publish, I share it on FB, used to Tweet it-don't find it helps-then share with my followers, Digg it, then Stumble it. I've found SU to be my best bet. I enjoy the site and Stumble regularly, posting others' hubs as well. I've a few friends there as well, and they do come by HP per my suggestions.
Thanks for giving us some insight into your traffic ways!
Pamela, I admire your determination. One day I will follow your example. In the meanwhile I enjoy whatever HubPages has to offer.
Pamela, when it comes to those who are striving to make a go of their work, I think you have just shared some good information. I have been at the request of some, Stumbling their hubs. When it comes to understanding all of this I'm as smart as a stump. Through this article and a few others I'm beginning to see the picture of just how much work is involved. Kudos and Blessings that you obtain your goal, 50
Great advice Pam, I have found quite a bit of visitors from those sites you mentioned. I also use Snipsly which i really like a lot I get a lot of visitors from them. Cheers.
Pamela, good Hub, I've bookmarked it. I like the disclaimer also!
Driving in that outside traffic has to be one of the hardest things to do, yet is perhaps the most rewarding as everyone who seems to know says that THAT'S the traffic that matters when it comes to Adsense revenues. I think you are doing right to focus a lot on quality. In the end, I think it is of the utmost importance, because even if you can drive in traffic, if you're writing goop, who's going to stick around long enough to take your work seriously, and certainly who's going to take the time to scroll down and allow you the maximum opportunity of getting an ad clicked on?
Interesting you mention login problems at RegGage. I've run into the same problem and have pretty much given up on the thing.
In any event, keep up the great work, thanks for the tips, and happy hubbing. Wow, that's a mouthful. :)
Good work Pamela99 and thank you for giving nice tips for the upcoming hubbers like me. Thanks
Useful information. It is very thoughtful of you to share this knowledge!!!
Pamela since Shari came by I am now trying to decipher SEO , RSS , backlinks and all this other stuff ! I now have a full on brain drain ! And I need what little I have. So thank you for putting something in terms I can understand.
Well done, and good advice for new hubbers.(I've been here 3 months) I have also started doing my article in word first, finding my pictures, amazon, etc. first. It is working well.
Thanks for shortening my learning curve... Great information from someone who has experienced it.
Hi Pamela,
Your hubs are always of the finest quality. Great job, very informative for new comers and great refresher course for some one like me who has been away for awhile.
Sage
Great hub Pamela!
I like reading other people's experiences, because they are very helpful. Some things that you wrote here will definitely help me.
Thanks!
voted up & useful! Thanks Pamela99 for most useful info- RedGage is adjusting to sign-in issues, was suppose to be finished with adding additional space last PM. I think it's a good site. After Hub publish, FB, twitter, then RedGage etc. with listings. Like you, I enjoy friends made and writing, but have made no money; maybe it will come after a year or longer...
Nice hub. Your stats amazingly resemble the way I promote and get traffic. Thanks.
Hello,Pamela, and thank you for such a down-to-earth and honest hub. So far I read about how many hundreds of dollars they made or you got to this and you got to do that and success will come to you. I am in the same boat, also 13 months here, and learn everything there was written, even the full-stop and the commas. I got it increased some but nothing like they were saying. I have had one pay-out from Google but after ten months. I am not ungrateful but considering the work we put in. I too had a couple of visitors from Stumple. Hardly anything from Digg and as you said Reddich you get a number of vistors and then nothing. I too would like to know where is the key to unlook the door for the great flood to come in? If I find it, I definitely will let you know. Ok, back to the grindstone.
Pam, This a a really good Hub. It has a lot of useful information and tips. I hope all is going well with you and your family. By the way I found this Hub on Digg. I was posting some of my own stuff. I have started to make some money from Amazon. I found the secret is in volume. I used to use Amazon as a decoration. It had to look nice on my Hub. I have changed my attitude. I put in an Amazon capsule and max it out on number of items(10). The more items you give them to click on, the more clicks you will get. Have a Great Day! Voted up and awesome.
Great work, always glad to be a fan. I may change to the word style that you use. Seems as if having the summaries already to go all at one time is very effective. You are so smart Pam! I am so new to this hub pages writing that I need all of the help I can grab. I appreciate all of your help for getting traffic to my website.

GREAT STUFF Pam, I'm grateful you built this wealth of information. I for one will put it to good use getting traffic to my websites. Bookmarking this with the other greats and rated up and all that is good. Peace and Thanks :)
Thanks for share your experience, Pamela. I also do the same like you. The important thing is never give up. Sometimes we felt bored with anything about traffic. But better it come naturally and flow like a river. Very inspiring hub. I hope we all learn from this hub. Good work, my friend. Vote up as usual.

It seems to me that you're doing what you need to .. you've got a great handle on it!!!
Great info and I do much the same thing though haven't been posting on Digg because someone told me that you could get banned for doing that (not sure if it's true and just didn't have the time to find out), and I use Xomba which seems to post me up really high in the Google rankings even before my HP page.
As a new hubber, I am trolling for relevant info. Thank you for your post.
Thank you very much for the excellent advice! One problem I have is: Finding videos for my hubs.Any suggestions for this problem?
Pamela, your articles inspired me to write one about what I have learned. I found this info in HubPages and other places as well. Check it out as it is detailed on backlinks.
I enjoyed your material and your work as always. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Linda
Great advice Pamela :) I'm using quite a few that you mentioned, but will look into the others as well. I also submit my RSS to as many places as will take it lol My problem is finding time, not only to write, but "market" myself these days! Thanks again and rated up!
Hi Pamela
This is something which I've not yet tried because of the time constraints. I find it hard enough to find time to write hubs.
All the traffic I've had so far has been organic(I think this is the correct term) but it is clear to me that if I want to take my writing to the next level I am going to have to knuckle down and promote my hubs.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information.
Amber:)
Great tips. I need to bookmark this Hub. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the info. This is a tough nut to crack, but I love the challenge,(Hubbing)and I need all the help I can get. lol
jim
Great Hub Pam. You and I write in a similar way except I use notepad. I just find it quick and easy. I use all the same backlinking sites and also have a problem with Redgage. I hear it is good but it seems when ever I'm on it, they are "too busy". I usually get frustrated with the site and leave. This hub is good stuff.
Very helpful hub, Pamela99! I usually don't use the forums, but I will use them more for advice from others. Thanks for your great tips!
Easylearningweb
Great helpful hub Pamela. Yes we all need to do backlinks. As for redGage I found it easier to use with firefox especially when loading pics. page360 is good too.
I would not use the same wording on each of your backlinks you need to change the wording slightly.
You could also write articles of similar subjects as you write at hubpages on Infobarrel and link them together. That way they would compliment each other. Info pays well too. Thanks for sharing your great experiences.
I have Xomba, FB, Twitter and Redgage only, but received few traffic from these. Most of my traffic comes from google, yahoo and a few from bing. As for the other sites you mentioned here, I guess it's time to register on these sites.
Thanks for sharing Pam.
Very, very informational! Making articles out of your hubs are GREAt too! Thank you!
Thanks Pamela for stopping by my hub earlier. This hub was a wealth of knowledge.
Pam great hub I have voted and bookmarked. Thank you so much
Happy New Year
Tina
Thanks for sharing and for your honesty. I'm not making any money with Amazon either. I have decided to just go with writing a quality hub. Not certain I will even stay with Amazon. Seems you get caught up when you first sign up with Hubpages and you see all of these other money making possibilities and they seem to end up being a headache more than anything. I really enjoy Hubpages and think I will give them the best I can do, it's fun and a gain-full of experience. Plus, I think (for me personally) the hub looks better when it is just a 'hub' and not with all those add-ons. Hubpages, has enough advertisements of their own and place them strategically on your hub and look pretty neat. True, the money does not come fast (which I'm sure most of us thought that it would at first); but it will add up and that's the good part. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy Hubpages for Hubpages. Voted and rated.
I use no one site, so for me this hub is very useful! I want to try with Xomba .. Thanks!
Congratulations on your holiday hubs and success (including Amazon)!!!
Thank you! I need to generate more traffic, so I'll bookmark this.
Pamela, I have found that writing is easier than marketing myself. You've given some great tips and advice. I have found it's more of a combination of sights that help.
Hye pamela, i am exactly the same stage as you are 20 months ago when you were still a novice. I guess now you are in the Guru or mastery level. I've published 7 hubs within 2 weeks joining hubpages. My traffic mostly comes from hubpages and I promote most using stumbleupon and diggs. it generates me traffic very quickly but only last for a day or two. I cant seem to maintain my high numbers of visitors to my hub. Any advice?
Everyone has there own unique way of generating traffic. Every time I read hubs like this, I get more ideas. Thank you!
This one's a really useful one Pamela - lots of good experience sharing here. It takes a while to figure out what works and you seem to have figured out the formula. Thank you. I learned some new tips.
Wow, this is indeed useful! I gotta start writing!
Good hub, very useful, thank you for the tips :) voted up and useful.
Just the tips I was looking for.I'm a newbie and feel I have a lot to learn, you're hub has answered some question for me. thank you.
Thank you, this is very useful and well-written. I shall bookmark it and refer to it often.
This is a great hub and you generously offer so many resources such as She Told Me. Thank you for the information and I definitely give you the Vote up!
Useful. I like that you give some actual examples of sites to use to increase traffic, you don't just say "use other sites" like some stuff I have read. Thanks!
I'm just starting out on HubPages and this is a good read, very informative.
Good information, Pamela. I also use Word. It's important to find a way to automate the writing process to make it easier to submit to many sites.

I used the sites, they gave me some traffic, but not money. I found if you find help site or something discussing the topic you wrote about, you can get more quality traffic that is interested in what you have on you site, and can get you some money. But I am not doing a lot of money, but this is what is working best good for me. I also have a hub which the keyword is on every line, "you're so Ugly" and it ranks good becaue the quantity of keywords.
Keep on hubbing!
