Mothers Day Gift - Make it Special
77Choosing great mothers day gifts is not always easy. As our mother’s age it seems they don’t need much and it you should ask they will often say “I don’t need anything”. At least that is the response I get from my elderly mother. Then, we really have to put on our thinking caps to come up with a unique gift; yet sometimes it is as simple as a lovely bouquet of flowers.

Goddess Isis
Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day?
Motherhood has been celebrated through the centuries as the mother Goddess was worshiped as the creator of life. Female Goddess figures have been unearthed in numerous archeology digs. Isis in Egypt ruled over any matter that concerned mothers. Rhea/Cybele were revered as the mother goddesses in Greece, and it was Hera in Rome. Mothering festivals were typically held in the spring to celebrate the rebirth of the land.

Mothering Sunday
During the 1600’s the English celebrated a day called “Mothering Sunday” on the first day of Lent to honor the mothers of England. Many worked as servants living in their employer’s home and their real homes were often far away, so on Mothering Sunday they were encouraged to go home and spend time with their mothers
Anna Jarvis
Mothers Day in the USA
In the United States in 1870, the first Mother’s Day Peace Proclamation was penned by Julia Ward Howe. She was a social reformer and poet who wrote the words to the Battle Hymn of the Republic. She was attempting to rally women to call for peace. In 1907. Anna Jarvis went a step further and actually campaigned for a nationally recognized Mother’s Day.
Finally by 1911, Mother’s Day was being celebrated in most states. On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made the official proclamation that Mother’s Day would be a national holiday to be celebrated annually in May. Around the world there are more than 46 countries that have a special day to pay tribute to mothers. Some celebrate in the spring and some in autumn.

Mother's Rings are Always a Winner
How I Got a Mother's Ring
The best mother’s day gift I ever received was from my three sons. My house was robed many years ago, and they took every bit of my jewelry they could find, which included a beautiful antique style mother’s ring that I loved. A few years later my three sons chipped in and bought me a new mother’s ring, which I know wasn’t easy financially as my youngest son was still a teenager working as a busboy. I rarely ever take the ring off as it means so much to me

Necklace
It is ideal if you can find a personal gift that attaches to a pleasant memory of your mothers. Jewelry for mother is usually a good idea. Choosing personalizedjewelry is always a good idea, and there are engraved necklaces with the children’s names including their birthstone. Also, you can buy her a piece of jewelry with a type of gem that is her favorite. Of course, as I’ve already mentioned mothers rings are a very special gift.

Craft Idea
If you have a particular craft and can make your mother a personalized gift that is a great idea. A particularly neat idea I have seen is using white dish towels with printed family recipes. With the help of your child use a marker or crayon to print the recipe while paper. Your child can also write their name and date. Then take the towel and paper to a copy shop, and they can easily transfer the recipe to the towel. This is simple, fun for the children and a personal gift that your mother will love. Grandmothers always love things from their grandchildren.

How About Gift Cards that Pamper?
Another type of gift is one that pampers your mother, such as a day at the spa, a massage, or even getting a gift certificate for her favorite nail saloon is special. Mother’s don’t always take the time, or they may not have the money to indulge themselves. Many women have a favorite perfume or would like a basket of bath accessories if she doesn’t have one.
Summary
Obviously Mother’s Day is a happy day for Hallmark, but what if you make a special card using your own words and design? That can really be a precious moment. You can also take your mother out for a special dinner. We want to make our mothers feel special on this day to show our love.
Most importantly, if possible, spend some time with your mother. No one knows how long we have on this earth, so take advantage of the time to spend with your mother as often as you can.

I think the key here is "spend some time with your mother". Nice ideas Pamela.
Very nice! The best gift of all - time. Thanks for reminding us.
Thanks for the ideas!
Neat ideas and I love how your sons bought you the ring--just precious. Rated up.
Great ideas, Pamela, for Mothers Day and the flowers photos that you used as dividers are perfect for this hub. Aesthete must be your middle name.
Very interesting and informative article! I don't know what I would do without my mother! She is the "founder" of me and I am grateful to her. Nice Job!

Thank you Pamela, I love Mother's Day, I was also born on Mother's Day!
I loved this. It seems I am usually 'a-day-late-and-a-dollar-short" when it comes to holidays. --I have good intentions, but poor follow-through. Your hub inspired me to do something now.
Thanks
Enjoyed the history of Mother's Day and liked your ideas for personalized gifts, especially transferring a treasured family recipe to a white dish towel. Thanks for sharing.
Very beautiful Pam. I needed some Ideas...thanks!
I really didn't know the history of Mother's Day..Very interesting..Thank you. Great gift ideas.
I have wished many times in my life that I could just sit and talk with my mother once again. You truly don't know what you are missing until it is gone.
But every Mother's Day I spend some time with her.

A great Hub Pamela. I would love to celebrate Mothers Day but unfortunately she is in heaven now. I realized how I missed her reading your Hub.
Pamela...liked reading about a little history here! Also some nice ideas for Mother's Day!!! My mother passed away when I was a child, but I often celebrated with her mother (my grandmother). I think the best memories I have of my grandmother is her reading my homemade cards I made for her to me out loud after I gave it to her. She would smile and thank me..I always get such a warm feeling when my kids draw things for me and make their own cards.....adorable...GREAT hub! Best, G
Mothers are really important in this world. It is really hard to find gifts for moms especially if she’s already a little bit older. It seems that we’ve gave her a lot of things. But one thing I realize, moms will always appreciate even the smallest, or even the cheapest, thing that we give her as long as we remember this special day. You’ve shared excellent tips in this hub. I like your video. Thumbs up!
Happy Mother's Day!
I think the best gift is mainly to spend the day with them and just buy some flowers.
Pamela,
I do not think I ever appreciated how grateful Mom was for every card that we ever gave her, every trinket, anything crafty (no matter how awful). I have spent much of my healing this year giving these treasures to the little ones and their little ones now (of my brothers), some in scrapbook form at Christmas and birthdays.
Yes, I believe time and the written word are two of the greatest gifts. This was a beautiful article, and it was good for me to read it as well.
Voted UP, USEFUL, BEAUTIFUL & AWESOME!
Just wanted to comment, Pamela, that I made (7) books for my siblings and cousins aged 55-65; (6) books for niece and nephews aged 23-39; and (3) books for the "greats" aged 4-7. I always hosted (and still intend to) Christmas as we outgrew Mom's house. This past Christmas, without a doubt, it was the very youngest who couldn't get enough of their books... oh the questions they asked, the smiles, the finger smudges-- to me, all the signs of love and exactly what I wanted from the gifts I made. I honestly felt selfish as I got so much joy and healing in the process.
Happy Day to you, dear Pamela!!
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day, Pamela. I received some of those flowers you mentioned at the beginning of your hub. But, the best part was the skyping with my two youngest grandkids

Excellent tips! I'm really excited about the approaching day of mothers and not knowing what's really because my mother always responds that wants nothing. Thanks for the ideas! Up!
