Yesterday I heard that 884 people were arrested across the nation for running a child -prostitution ring for child trafficking, and the arrests included 99 pimps according to federal employees. At this time 69 children have been recovered per CNN’s story. In TN, 29 of the individuals arrested were connected to trafficking underage Somali Outlaws, the Somali Mafia and the Lady Outlaws. Human trafficking is a growing problem in the United States.

This Federal sting took three days involving 40 cities in the USA. It is part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative, which was formed in June, 2003. There are 39 of these projects across the country. At this time 1260 children have been rescued. The initiative has resulted in 438 indictments, 625 convictions, 153 criminal enterprises have been disrupted with 58 have been successfully dismantled. A typical sentence is 25 years to life.
That seems a perfect name to me as you can not give innocence back to an abused child. The bulk of the children rescued at this point were primarily in Seattle, Tacoma, Washington, and Sacramento. The largest number of arrests occurred in Detroit.

How Can I Help
As you note in the graph, child abuse has grown steadily at an alarming rate. There has to be more all of us can do to protect the children. Children should not be out in the evening on accompanied. Children are safer when they are in groups. Parents should always know where their children are going, with who and what time they will return. All people should be alert layer out in public as a child can be snatched very quickly and put in a van. If you see anything that looks abnormal whether it is abuse or child being dragged into a vehicle immediately called 911 and write down the vehicles tag number. You would have to assume it is better to air on the side of safety.

After reading the news article yesterday this morning I was watching the news today as they reported on a new book being sold on Amazon, which totally shocked me. Now I believe in free speech, but Amazon certainly chooses what product it chooses to sell and this book makes a mockery of free speech. It is totally irresponsible when little children are suffering because there are so many disgusting people walking around.
The self published book is, The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure by Philip R. Greaves.
Greaves states is "an attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certain rules for these adults to follow." Greaves later says he wants to see less hatred and lighter sentences if sex offenders are caught.” This book appears to condone the actions of pedophiles. I don’t think it should be for sale anywhere.
Rules? This is illegal and children should report to the police, not learn how to tolerate a totally unacceptable situation..
My Rant, Professional's Opinion
Lighter sentence??? How about castration? How about a lifetime sentence? Where does this guy get off thinking there is anything remotely okay about even touching a child in an inappropriate way? People that wrote into Amazon had numerous negative comments, of course.
Locally, here in Jacksonville, Dale Carson had this to say. Jacksonville attorney, Dale Carson is a former police officer and FBI agent. Carson is trained specifically on sexual predators. "When an offender actually picks up a book like this, says another guy feels the same way I do," said Carson. "See he's making the same arguments I would make, it's reasonable. I'm here to tell you, the conduct is not reasonable."

Summary
I wrote this article because I felt such anger at the publishing of “The Pedophile Guide” book and the fact that Amazon would carry this tripe. I adore children and won’t even watch anything on TV where a child is being harmed. I think at the least we could all complain to Amazon; after all they depend on our purchases for their livelihood.
As for human trafficking of children, we need to make our voices heard by our representatives. Obviously they are working on the problem and the huge number of arrests reflects their actions, but being a vocal advocate in support of children is certainly a positive move.

You're right Pam - this is shocking. The stats that you wrote about before you mentioned this new book tell an alarming tale. Most Americans have no idea that things like this happen in our country. It seems like a terrible problem that only happens in far away places like Haiti and Cambodia. Thanks for helping with the awareness. It's something that we should all get riled up about!

I had a narrow escape from a pedophile when I was a pre-teen. Thank God I was able to jump out of the car and run away when he slowed down to get off of the highway.

Pamela this is just disgusting and I hope all those sickos recieve the maximum penalty. Those statistics are just alarming.
Phoenix was one of the cities involved in that FBI sting. It's a huge problem here. We have an organization here in the city that is opening up a safe house for victims. Right now, if an underage prostitute is rescued by police, the only safe place for her to go is jail. She won't get the help she needs there.
Pamela, it is hard to believe this is going on here! I do believe it though, and am glad you did this hub to raise awareness for there needs to be a greater public outcry against it. It is sickening and horrifying. You are right, they can't get back their innocence. We need to send a strong message to those that may be considering getting involved in such horrific things. Lets all continue to try to protect our children.

In my opinion, Stopping Human Trafficking is one of the reasons we should police our borders and points of entry/exit into and out of the US. As your article and comments point out, activities trace back to Somali groups, and apparently to illegal immigration near Phoenix, where kidnapping is also a high occurence crime.
I do wonder what is inadequate about the current laws on the books that make human trafficking a crime, and why taxpayer dollars need to go into making even more laws when they could go into police and prosecution activities.

I just went to complain to Amazon and found out they pulled the book 47 minutes ago, here is one of the headlines:
"After 3,000 comments, customer outrage and threats of boycotts, Amazon.com removed "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure" from its Kindle eBook listings Thursday."

Nothing shocks me anymore. And the truth of the matter is, it is not going away because evil cannot be contained. There are other books promoting all kinds of sexual evil but disguised and coded.

Pam - great hub and the comments really touched my heart too. I am an adult survivor of childhood sexual, physical and mental abuse. I can tell you that I have had to deal with abuse issues all of my life. The Pedophile book makes me nauseous, I too am angry that Amazon would even offer such trash for sale. Even more angry at the guy who wrote it, he certainly is not a human being in any moral sense of the word. I'm glad the policy makers are FINALLY doing something about this problem. It is much more widespread than people know, and it usually destroys the lives of the victims - I am one of the lucky ones. Last year the government handled 5 million cases of child abuse. The year before it was 3 million. Some estimate that the real numbers are 3 times that, but so much goes unreported. As a case in point, my abuse was never reported in any way. I ask your readers to consider that if there have been 3 million abused kids per year in the system for the last 20 years, then right now there are 60 million people walking around in the U.S. that have been abused. Also, check out my hub on Mental Health in America. I believe the numbers are highly under-reported.

Pamela, Thank you for reporting on this vital topic. I do hope for stiffer punishment for ANY crimes against children. It seems these crimes should be more severe than that of crimes against adults and yet they are not. Keep reporting on issues such as Child Human Trafficking and New Book Causing Public Disgust. Sickening. I hope Amazon will be more 'careful' in the future. It's good people complained about that evil book. And it's good to know that there are initiatives in place to stop this horrific crime against the children (and all others). So many children found and returned to their homes (that's a big number). As sickening as this is, we are so glad you highlighted the topic. Our culture has lost the concept that one person's freedom ends where another person's harm begins.
Not surprisingly, the government does not have nor will it ever get a handle on the problem. In years gone by this problem was handled collectively by the men of a community and their actions kept the problem to a minimum.
The depth and complexity of the problem we face with this issue today is even more complicated by the fact that we have become a society that believes that love conquers all, that if we play nice everyone else will see the need to do that too. Predators know how to play that game to get what they want.
That is not to say that some predators have not repented and changed their behavior. However, the statistics clearly show us that not many are doing so and a society that tolerates this will crumble from within. Hope to see even more comments come in to this hub.

Debby, I do not know if a petition has been created, I It's should be illegal to publish this trash. I don't believe our forefathers has this in mind when they wrote about freedom of speech. That author has books on Amazon still but don't know the contents but I just checked. Thanks for your comments and I think a petition is a good idea.

Pamela, Thats good. Amazon should have never been selling crap like that in the first place! Why would anyone want read such disgusting trash. I understand selling books, and making money, but my god they went way past the line in selling material such as this. People should complaint in order to have dirt removed from shelves. Another point I was surprised to see Detroit had the highest number of arrest.

Hello Pamela, It is very hard for me to believe that such a book or guide was ever made in the first place! I can't hardly believe that. That said, its good they took it off of Amazon.
I sometimes am truly overwhelmed by what I hear about and know about in our world. Its mind boggling, that other human beings can be so horrifically evil unto others. I am glad they did the sting, and saved so many lives. God help those that are caught up in it, the children and their families that lost them! May they keep on catching these evil people and put them away or something forever. I am not sure there is anyway to bring someone back to being a decent citizen after trafficking children!

I wonder about the thousands of children who are pictured on missing persons posters at post offices and grocery bags at stores. Many of them are probably used for prostitution. It is so heartbreaking and sick.

When I heard that news this morning, I felt the same way. Our soldiers have fought for the freedoms we enjoy, only for twisted and evil people to turn around and distort these very freedoms we enjoy. Like you said, a childs innocence can never be given back to them and it's a damn shame that someone would want to take it.
